Detroit-born kid with imagination

My full name is Nahshon Cook-Nelson. I was born in Detroit but grew up mainly in Farmington Michigan about 20 minutes outside Detroit. I was raised mainly by my dad and grandparents. While my other siblings were in Nashville with my mom or yet to be born, I was often left to play with no one but my imagination.

I loved writing fake arguments between my toys or breakdancing with my fingers to pass the time. To other kids this was boring, but to me, it felt limitless. Simultaneously I’d be taking in the sounds of Motown from my grandparent’s radio or watching drumline the movie and visiting Nashville when I could.

By the time I got to high school, I was using every class project as an opportunity to bring my ideas to life on camera. If I wasn’t drumming (which I usually was) I was writing poetry, music, and skits, something that would help me express my creativity.

This continued all the way through college, winning the comedy competition Last Laker Standing, performing at LaughFest and being a top 12 finalist in Grand Rapids Got Talent. My favorite part has been using these skills to help students process trauma and learn how to set goals.

In the background, videos were just a hobby of mine. Even with the introduction of TikTok and YouTube Shorts, I didn’t get any traction for the first 2 years. Then I went from 200 to 40,000 subscribers in 6 months and the traction hasn’t been the same since.

Now, I’m looking to take the opportunity I’ve been given to help other people fully express themselves and be reminded of the power of their imagination ❤️
